本刊隶属于中华预防医学会系列杂志。 “以防为主(三级预防)，防治并举”为本杂志的办刊宗旨。主要栏目有流行病学与预防医学、基础研究、临床研究、综述与讲座、技术革新与经验交流、论著摘要与病案报道、域外肿瘤研究信息转载、简讯等。为活跃学术气氛，增加著、读、编者间的交流，本刊还将不定期的设置“学术争鸣”栏目。本刊以从事肿瘤基础研究与临床工作者以及大专院校师生为主要读者对象。

摘要：Department of radiation Oncology,University of Maryland School of Medicine USA The war against cancer is a war not yet won. Over the years we have made significant progress in cancer treatments. However,viewing from the end point-the survival rate,the results remain very disappointing. Of the all patients diagnosed with cancer in the world,approximately 45% will eventually die as a result of recurrence and/or metastasis. Radiation therapy is one of the major modalities for cancer treatment,it had contributed significantly in saving the lives of patients inflicted with cancer and improving their quality of life. However,it also has its share in the disappointiong statistics with all other modalities. Over the last 5 decades,radiation therapy has gone through many advances both in equipment and in treatment methods. The impact,however,falls short as compared with the expectations. It is possible that the efficacy of radiation therapy has reached its limits. It is also possible that what we have done in the past has some major shortcomings in its methodology,which may require revolutionary improvement. Conformal radiation therapy as a new treatment technique provides us some hope in answering these key questions.
